1850s Dress Project

An independent study project from 2020. I wanted to create a dress set that was designed to fit in a very specific time period (the 1850s, even more specifically the late 1850s/cusp of the 1860s).  I gathered research, created a final design, and sourced the fabrics - a cream cotton sateen, black cotton voile, and velvet and tassel trims. I worked with the costume shop and fellow costumes student Teagan Anderson to bring the dress to life. In all we built a chemise, corset, hoop, day bodice, evening bodice, and skirt.
